Hockey Town?
December 13, 2007In a recent SI article, Detroit was criticized as not really deserving its title as ‘Hockey Town’. The article argued that Minnesota, home of the Wild, deserved to be given the title. Minnesota, although an expansion team, has sold out every single home game in the team’s existance. This is a remarkable feat. But I began to think of Detroit, and how hockey has lost its appeal in Detroit. Every year, Detroit has a solid team, with Zettenberg and Lidstrom, as well as Hasek in net. They are a high-scoring team, and are very appealing to watch. So I ask fans of Detroit, what is wrong with you? Why have you lost support in your team?
Each year, you have more fans attend Lions games protesting the firing of Matt Millen than Red Wings games. Stop and realize the greatness of the Red Wings and the teams they have had over the years. Sports fans of Detroit, prove that you should be still considered the ‘Hockey Town’ of America.
